Hey Reader,
Happy Turkey Day, fellow Americans! And happy, Thursday if you live elsewhere in the world.
I wanted to thank you so much for sticking around here with me - whether you signed up for my list back in 2017 and have kept up with every email I've shared, or if you just signed up last week and haven't gotten to know me yet - I do appreciate you.
Today, I'll spend the day with my mom and dad, my adult kiddos AJ and Kati and my husband, Michael. (Poor Jolene and Oscar have to stay home). We start with Mimosas around 7am while I make my Bigmamma's Bigmamma's Southern Dressing Recipe (my Great-Great Grandmother). With any luck, there will be plenty of Deviled Eggs and the Cowboys will win... but no matter what, I'll be spending a nice long day being thankful for so many things, including you - hosts, colleagues, clients, and those who believe in me and know I can help them succeed in their hospitality business.
Tomorrow, I'll be back at it - no rest for the Wicked around here, so stay tuned for my Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday specials. I'd love to help you grow your business this year.
Another thing I'll be doing tomorrow is my annual tradition of watching a Christmas movie a day. I have my favorites, and I'm looking for some new ones to add to the list. If you have a favorite Christmas or holiday movie, I'd love to know what it is so I can watch it if I haven't already.
If you love holiday movies as much as I do, check out my Top 12 Christmas Movies list to bring some holiday cheer your way.
These are my favorites, the ones I watch every year to get in the spirit. I hope you find a gem or two on here to enjoy:
- Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas** – If you haven’t seen this Jim Henson masterpiece, you’re missing out. Sweet, musical, and magical—like The Gift of the Magi with otters.
- Holiday Inn – Bing Crosby + Fred Astaire = perfection. It’s funny, heartfelt, and full of classic charm.
- Die Hard – Don’t argue—it’s absolutely a Christmas movie. Yippie-kay-aye.
- November Christmas – Sam Elliott in a sweet, heartfelt story. Get the tissues ready. My daughter Kati found this on Netflix several years ago and she and I watch it on my birthday (December 9th) while we put up our tree. I love traditions.
- Santa Claus Is Coming to Town – Pure childhood nostalgia. And let’s be real, the Burgermeister is iconic. I know all the words to this entire show.
- Elf – Will Ferrell pouring syrup on his spaghetti… yelling “Saaanta” and sitting in Bob Newhart’s lap… this move is laugh-out-loud funny no matter how many times I watch it.
- Bad Santa – Okay, it’s REALLY DIRTY, but it cracks me up every single time. Sometimes you just need to laugh - a lot! My mom hates this movie and hates that it’s one of my favorites.
- Christmas Vacation – Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid are Christmas chaos at its finest. I have a sweatshirt and an ornament (and we are all in the vacation industry, right - so it’s perfect!)
- The Family Man—Nicolas Cage (I LOVE HIM) in a heartfelt, moving “what-if” story that always reminds me to appreciate the life I have. If you haven’t seen this, it is a tearjerker and so good!
- **Christmas Chronicles: A heartwarming, action-packed holiday adventure with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn as the coolest Santa & Mrs. Clause ever. When this came out a few years ago, I wished my kiddos still believed in Santa. (they are in their 20’s and 30’s, but a girl can dream)
- ** Four Christmases: A hilariously chaotic tale of family, compromise, and finding joy amid the holiday madness. (Reese Witherspoon is sweet, sassy and southern, like me!)
- The Nightmare Before Christmas This one reminds me of my two oldest kiddos, AJ and Savannah, who watched it nearly every day between Halloween and Christmas when they were little. We even had a special Nightmare Before Christmas-themed tree for a few years.
I hope these bring a little joy and laughter to your holiday season. Let me know if you watch one of these for the first time this year, I’d love to hear what you think.
Have a great one!
